Power outages are very common during strong storms. All QEI Security & Technology systems have a backup battery that will power your system for four to six hours. During that time, your system will report to our monitoring station, which is staffed 24/7. Once your battery backup dies, your security system will no longer work or report to the monitoring station.
When the power returns, your battery backup will begin charging, but while it charges, your panel will beep letting you know the battery is low. It usually takes four to eight hours to recharge, however it may take up to 24 hours for the battery to completely charge and for the panel to stop beeping.
If it has been more than 24 hours and your security system is still beeping, try these steps:
If you have a DSC panel and power has been restored and your battery backup is charged, then you probably need to set the time on the panel to stop the beeping.
If you have an older DSC panel, you will hit * 6 MASTER CODE 1 and then enter time in military time.
If you have a newer DSC panel, you will hit * 2 * and then enter time in military time.
If that does not work, hit the # key and that will mute the beeping until power is restored or until a QEI technician can get to your system.
If you have a 2GIG panel and it is beeping, press the “security” button, then to the right of the “menu” button, there is a blinking yellow icon. Tap on that and it will tell you the issue with the system. Once you click the “ok” button, it will stop your system from beeping, but the yellow triangle will remain until the trouble condition goes away.
If you have a 2GIG panel and the screen is white after the power returns, please contact QEI Security & Technology because a technician will need to come to your home.
If these troubleshooting tips do not help, you may need a new battery or additional assistance, so please contact QEI Security & Technology at 1-844-734-7233.
