Project Detail

This Wild Dunes home includes many unique features including the bronze art installation and lighting in the entry, a double island in the kitchen and customized lighting control throughout.

From a home technology standpoint, the most unique feature is the hidden technology closet. The door is seamlessly built into the wall and allows access to the rack containing the audio and home automation components.

Lighting Control

All lighting uses dimmable Lutron switches that are connected to the Control4 home automation system. All bathroom lights are motion activated and remain on for one minute from the last motion. All hall lights are LED swivel cans that are also motion activated, making it simple for guests to find their way in the dark.

At the front entryway, the homeowners purchased a bronze art installation from a Grecian artist. QEI’s lighting expert designed lighting that would perfectly accent the installation and that would replicate the feeling of scuba diving among a school of fish.

Whole House Audio

All rooms in the home are pre-wired for distributed audio. It is far less expensive to pre-wire than it is to go back and retro-fit wiring, so this is always the recommendation of QEI audio experts.

Speakers were installed on the outdoor screened-in porch (one pair of in-ceiling speakers and one pair of in-wall speakers), as well as in the living room, kitchen, bunk room and master bedroom. In the master bathroom, dual voice coils were used to reduce the amount of visible equipment in the space. A 5.1 speaker surround sound system was installed in the den.

Home Automation

Security, audio and lighting are controlled through the Control4 home automation system. The security system includes indoor and outdoor cameras, which are viewable remotely via smartphone or tablet.

Some of the lighting controls include “cleaning,” which turns all lights on 100% to make cleaning easier. The “entertaining” button turns on selected lights to pre-set power setting the scene for entertaining. Finally, the “midnight” button turns all lights off at midnight, however, the motion sensors will still activate LED and bathroom lighting.
